The West Face of Guye Peak in the summer. |
The summit of Guye Peak with Snoqualmie Mtn in the background. |
Chair Peak, as seen from Guye Peak. |
The approach to the West Face, via the snow chute. |
Setting up the anchor for the first pitch, we seem a little mixed up! |
But we figured it out and begin the fun stuff! |
Snow was too powdery to continue, so after a few pitches, we bailed. . . |
Since the weather was turning warmer, conditions worsened. |
But as usual, the views are impressive. (Looking north to Snoqualmie Mtn.) |
Then its time to come home, ever watchful of possible avalanche dangers. |
At the top of the talus field we skirt the base of the cliffs, looking for the entrance gully leading to the summit. |
Along the path, the rich green aare decorated with vivid splashes of color. |
As the sun emerges from behind the trees, we arrive at the gully. |
Approaching the base of the main mountain, Chris pauses to rest. Hiway 90 can be seen. |
After climbing in the sun for a while, a rest in the shade feels very good. |
Looking east toward the ski area and the highway from about midway up the mountain. |
Mt. Rainier provides a dramatic backdrop for this pic. |
Summit photo of Chris. The temperature is close to 90 and there is no breeze! |
The bright sun causes me to squint when this pic was taken. Red Mountain is in the background. |
We continued and found that Guye actually contains 6 summits. Here is the gully leading up to the last. |
The rock is very broken up, blocky and loose. The route is to the left and up, in front of the large block. |
We had time to practice some climbing techniques. Here, Chris rapels after a short, challenging problem. |
Almost at the gully bottom, Chris completes the final rapel. |
